| C. Kay Watson
has over 35 years of healthcare experience as both a nurse and
a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Manager with
over 23 of those years being in Central Service, Sterile Processing,
Materials Management and Infection Control. For the past ten
years she has been a consultant for facility construction and
expansion programs while also serving as interim manager for
more than hospitals around the nation. |
 |

 |
As a nationally
recognized speaker on current sterilization processes and
infection control issues being discussed in the nation today,
she has frontline and management experience in the implementation
and responsibility of enforcing the recommendations and requirements
of regulatory and non-regulatory agencies such as TDH, FDA, EPA,
JCAHO, AORN, APIC, ASHCSP, AAMI, CDC and others. |
|
She is also a member of the ASHCSP, AAMI,
and APIC with experience in educating CS/CSPD technicians and
management personnel and has been quoted in the L.A. Times and
other publications regarding her experience in these areas. Here
is an example of one article copied
from Healthcare Purchasing News where she contributed information
to reporter Todd Shields.
- Served as
a member of the Regulatory Advocacy Committee and Region 7
Director of the American Society for Healthcare Central Service
Professionals of the American Hospital Association. Also served
on cut-score committees of, and contributed to, the content of
certification exams of the National Institute for the Certification
of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.
- Undertook the task of establishing
the first certification exam of
the NICHSPDP held in Houston, Texas and formed the first affiliated
Chapter of the ASHCSP in Houston and has published articles addressing
aspects of sterile processing education and systems implementation
and management.
- Owns her own consulting service and is a consultant to attorneys and other professionals
in the areas of personal injury and medical malpractice in relation
to proper sterilization procedures and infection control.
Having both OR and CS/CSPD experience provides
her with the ability to see both sides of typically challenging
issues such as care and handling of medical instrumentation,
instrument inventory and control, case cart systems, customer
service, continuous process improvements, and staffing issues.
It is this kind of experience that gives her
the ability to present scientific fact relating to the laws of
sterility probability and to provide her clients and students
useful "real world" information.
